This article reports the discovery of 400,000 pengö (Hungarian currency at the time) in the offices of the Jewish Community of Cluj. According to the authorities, the origin of this amount could not be proven, so its confiscation was ordered. During the ensuing legal debate, the leaders of the Jewish community argued that the money had been collected from the congregation for the maintenance of the Jewish school and hospital and to support the less financially able members of the community.
