Ghetto of Sfântu Gheorghe (Trei Scaune County)

The ghetto was established in an unfinished structure at the edge of town. Here, the Jews from Sfântu Gheorghe, from the rural parts of Trei Scaune County, and from the southern part of Ciuc County (including the town of Miercurea Ciuc) were transferred. The total number of prisoners concentrated in the Sfântu Gheorghe ghetto was about 850.

The building intended for the ghetto was still under construction, with no doors or windows, and the attic for the first floor was made up of wood planks. The Jews were crammed in this unfinished structure, on its ground floor and in its attic made of planks. Food and water shortages caused many prisoners to become ill. The commander of the ghetto was a German SS second lieutenant, whose name could not be identified, assisted by gendarmerie officers and the Hungarian police.

The concentration of the Jews in the ghetto began on 3 May 1944, and after a week they were transferred to the Reghin camp.
